Soccer Camp 2024 Thursday Recap

 You'd think that by Thursday at a week-long camp, activities and energy would slow down, right? Not at Soccer Camp!

The campers began their day as usual with a prayer, the pledge of allegiance, breakfast, and quiet time.

Around 9:15am the morning chapel service began. The worship included Lay Me Down, Lord I Need You, Here I Am to Worship, and Fear is a Liar.

Joe Wilbur spoke about salvation, and how Scripture states that it is by faith alone that we are saved. While many confuse James' writings to mean we are saved by our works, instead James is telling us that talk is cheap. People may make professions of faith, but that doesn't mean they actually possess that faith. Lack of works in a person who professes faith likely means they don't have faith altogether. Joe then went to Genesis 22 to show a genuine example of faith through Abraham.

The skill training for Thursday combined all three of the previous skills (i.e. passing, dribbling, and shooting).

Skill training was followed by grilled chicken and fries for lunch, as well as some rest time.

After a time of rest, it was once again a time for soccer. The campers returned to the soccer fields at 2:15pm for Dutch Futbol.

Free time was another hour-and-a-half filled with fun activities, including swimming, volleyball, archery, canoeing, fishing, and more.

In the evening, the campers made their way to the dining hall for a dinner of meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and broccoli.

After dinner, our international matches kicked off.

The annual camper versus counselor match also took place, with the counselors winning 5-2.

Finally, we had our evening chapel service. Everyone sang Graves Into Gardens, This Is Amazing Grace, Promises, and Build My Life. Joe then continued his thoughts from earlier on Genesis 22. Joe spoke on how Abraham not only expressed genuine faith, but also showed genuine worship by following the Lord's instructions.

Just one day to go at Soccer Camp. May the Lord work mightily in the lives of the campers with the little time we have remaining!

Soccer Camp 2024 Wednesday Recap

We have passed our halfway point of Soccer Camp on Wednesday! We were able to once again avoid most of the rain despite another day-long forecast of storms.

The campers started their day off at the flagpole once the breakfast bell rang. After accounting for everyone, we had our daily flag raising, pledge of allegiance, and morning prayer, after which everyone made their way into the dining hall for eggs and sausage on English muffins.

The campers gathered in the chapel barn for the morning service after some quiet time. We once again livestreamed our worship portion on Camp Iroquoina's Facebook and Instagram accounts. The songs which the campers sung were This the Day, You Are Holy, I Consider Your Love Forever, No Longer Slaves, and Our God.

 

During the chapel service, we heard a testimony from Daniel Rodriguez of how the Lord saved him from his sin and has since worked in his life. 

Joe Wilbur then brought forth another message from God's word. Joe spoke on God's covenant with Abram, who believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness (Genesis 15:6). 

Following the morning chapel service, the campers got prepared for soccer and made their way down to the soccer fields to practice shooting.

The campers then had some Philly cheesesteaks for lunch, followed by a time of rest.

At 2:00pm, the campers returned to the soccer fields to play Dutch Futbol, after which they enjoyed some free time period activities from 3:30pm to 5:00pm.

For dinner, the kitchen staff served the campers pasta, sausage, and peppers. There was also some time following dinner where we celebrated Soccer Camp Training Coordinator John Jones, whose birthday was today. John has served at Soccer Camp for 34 of its 46 years!

Post dinner, the campers jumped right into our second annual Soccer Camp kickball tournament. The campers and staff were split into various teams, and a few games were played by all.

After the tournament, the campers made their way to the chapel barn where our annual singalong occurred. The music team led by Seth Fluder combined to use their musical talents in leading the campers in over a dozen songs.

In between some of the songs, memory verses were said by a few cabins. Counselor Luke Howard also had some time to share his testimony.

At the end of the singalong, CIT Director Ezequiel Montes concluded by explaining the importance of each camper making a decision to accept the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.

That is our prayer for this week and what the closing prayer to the singalong focused upon.

Soccer Camp 2024 Tuesday Recap

 The rain that began on Monday greeted the campers to start off Tuesday, but we are thankful that it subsided early, and a beautiful afternoon and evening was enjoyed at Camp Iroquoina!

With the rain still coming down in the morning, the campers went straight from their cabins to the dining hall for breakfast. Breakfast consisted of waffles, bacon, sausage, and cereal. Following breakfast, the campers had some quiet time.

The morning chapel service included a couple of testimonies in addition to our time of worship and a message from God's word. Everyone sung Multiplied, Graves into Gardens, My Lighthouse, King of My Heart, and Song of My Father. 

In between the songs, two of the counselors, Brea and Cyrus, provided testimonies on how the Lord saved them and the work He is doing in their lives.

Joe Wilbur continued his theme of faith coming by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Joe spoke on 1 Chronicles 13 and how the children of Israel, King David, and Uzza did not follow the Lord's instructions and Uzza experienced judgement, while Obed Edom honored the Lord and was blessed for it. Instead of leaning on our own understanding to determine how to please the Lord, may our desire be to seek out what pleases the Lord as laid out in His Scripture.

Skill time came after the morning chapel service, with the skill of the day being passing.

The campers enjoyed some ham and cheese sandwiches for lunch and then had some rest time before more soccer. Unlike yesterday, the campers' time of Dutch Futbol was unaffected by the rain.

Free time began at 3:30pm and the campers had their choice of a range of activities including swimming, fishing, canoeing, pickleball, and more!

Tuesdays at Soccer Camp typically involves a cookout followed by extended soccer, and that's exactly what we did this Tuesday as well. We are thankful for the kitchen staff who have already worked so hard this week keeping a record number of campers, counselors, and staff well fed.

The time of extended soccer lasted until after the sun set.

Tuesday was a tiring day for the campers, especially following an abbreviated Sunday and a rainy Monday. As the campers wound down in their cabins, their counselors had a chance to share devotionals and discuss the Lord with them. One of the counselors shared during the program staff meeting how on Monday his campers had almost an hour's worth of questions about spiritual topics, some of which were very deep and mature. What was most encouraging was how they were one of the youngest cabins at camp! We ask that you spend time praying for the counselors as they present the Gospel clearly and accurately to their campers and that the campers would seek the Lord and accept Him as their personal Savior!
